What is the optimum amount of rice to put into a self constructed rice shaker?

Bluert, there is no right or wrong answer to this question. my advise would be to experiment with different levels of rice and containers until you find the right combo to suit your sound and style.

I found that a large Smartie's container filled with approx. 2 thirds rice was right for me, this worked especially well in a live atmosphere as demonstrated in the picture below.
