gash news i'm afraid. sadly neilson & i have amicably agreed to go our separate ways on the squidgy pop summer scorchers EP due to band politics situations... basically as i was going to be funding the mastering & duplication of the whole project, i wanted to record & mix all the tracks myself, so i could use the EP as an industry show reels piece but mainly to have a consistency flowing throughout the record. so when it came down to actually booking studio time & committing to dates, it turns out chunky don't actually want to record with me at all because now they want to track a lo-fi live recording of their whole set in a studio in witham instead! neilson said that the chunky boys are listening to loads of lo-fi artists these days that have an almost purposely poor quality to their records, & are tracked all in one room live to tape, & that the digital multitracked approach that i would take to recording them wouldn't suit the new lo-fi direction that they are trying to take their music. so yeh fair enough to try something different i guess?! but anyway from the perspective of the EP, for chunky to submit one of these lo-fi live tracks not recorded by & mixed me, like the rest of the tracks will be, really isn't what the original vision of the project was all about, & if that did happen by the time the EP had been released, typically everyone would've heard the chunky song in advance of the release already - as it'd be up on myspace the same weekend it was recorded for sure.. also following on from that squidgy pop are now adamant of course that all of the actual squidgy pop artists have to feature on any squidgy pop release, so that basically means all of chunky, seymore happy, white belt katta & rich's soon to be named solo project, as that's what squidgy pop is all about! which of course would have meant having to wait the inevitable forever for all those other recordings to actually materialize before we could pull the trigger on the EP release & i really want to release it this summer... so unfortunately we ended up having totally different visions of where this project was headed so neilson's going to continue work on the summer scorchers EP with just the squidgy pop roster & i'm going to concentrate on the mudhills crew artists EP separately with a view to it becoming the second schizoacoustic release, which is probably best for everyone involved to avoid any future harsh deals & disappointment etc. looking forward to both EPs.. peace
